Our gardeners are looking forward to planting their spring vegetables (snow peas, spinach, lettuce) as soon as the ground can be worked.
Our full-sun, naturally-warmed raised beds are 4’x12′ and must be maintained organically. The cost is $75.00 for the year, and includes compost, community, solar-powered water system, garden tools available, and neighboring supporting gardeners sharing advice, seeds and seedlings.
Our Community Garden includes 29 beds which are each 4'x12' raised growing beds. The beds allow gardeners full sun from sunrise to sunset, in raised beds naturally warmed and protected, for growing produce organically for home consumption.
We have a wonderful community of gardeners, who swap seeds and plants and share their successes and failures with their neighboring gardeners.
Now in our thirteenth year, many of our returning gardeners have become experts at planning and tending their gardens, and choosing varieties well suited for our rich soil in the protected beds. Our gardeners have increased their production by carefully timing succession crops, bringing produce to their families well into October. Wind Hill is happy to offer compost, gardening tips, camaraderie and neighborly competition to our community of gardeners.
Our gardeners are invited to join our weekly Weed & Wine gatherings, held on Monday evenings: a time to sit, sip wine and share appetizers with other gardeners and farm volunteers after they finish their garden or farm tasks.
INCLUSIVITY GARDEN PROGRAM 2023
We are pleased to be the recipient this year of an $11,000 grant for community gardens restoration and an inclusivity gardens program from the Sestero Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. We are excited to be using this grant money to bring diversity in farming to Wind Hill by dedicating some of the raised beds to growing and using ethnic specialties. Please contact us at windhillfarmcom@gmail.com if you would like to get involved. We are currently looking to attract more people to participate by becoming a gardener representing a diverse culture and cuisine.
Wind Hill welcomes people with farming and gardening interests to participate in our community gardens and programming and to protect and celebrate the Longo Open Space Area which is the home of Wind Hill Community Farm.
